The College promotes excellence and continual improvement of university training in health service management by providing a national university accreditation program.
The national university accreditation standards have been developed through broad consultation with employers, industry groups, health managers and universities, to ensure that graduates who complete these programs are competent to perform the core tasks they face in employment.
Accreditation provides universities with a framework to build courses of excellence in Health Service Management, and is a valuable tool to encourage continual improvement within their department. Students can also identify accredited university courses as a recognition of quality when choosing a university.
The following universities offer courses in Health Service Management (HSM) or related topics (leadership, etc) that have been accredited by ACHSM. They are clustered by state/territory and in alphabetical order.
Benefits for the accredited university include:
FREE Student Membership for all students studying your Health Management / Administration / Leadership courses accredited by ACHSM.
Provision of a certificate of accreditation and ‘logo’ for use by the university
A link from the College website to the university website where further information can be obtained regarding the accredited courses
In recognition of their accreditation fee, each accredited university will be provided with:
two free registrations to the College’s National Conference to be taken in the year of the Accreditation.
access to the College’s peer-reviewed (online) journal – the Asia-Pacific Journal of Health Management
an invitation for the accredited university to work more closely with the College on potentially suitable professional development programs
If you have any queries, please contact ACHSM or call +61 2 8753 5100.
The ACHSM Board has approved the Education Committee review and update of our accreditation documentation to align with our Master Competency Framework and to implement recommendations from an external evaluation completed recently (Fitzgerald Report).
All future accreditations and re-accreditations will be based on these updated documents. We kindly ask all current accredited universities to familiarise yourself with the content and encourage you to reach out if you have any questions.
ACHSM is currently training member surveyors on the updated and new information approved by the Board.
A recommendation from the Fitzgerald Report was to include an Endorsed category for short courses, workshops, microcredentials and conferences. A separate program has been created to support education offerings from outside the AQF program with an identified Endorsement Criteria. If you would like more information on this new ACHSM Program, please contact ACHSM at accreditation@achsm.org.au.
As combined resources, these documents are comprehensive and provide a clear process to universities and education providers interested in accreditation or endorsement. Accredited Universities can offer their students enrolled in accredited courses FREE MEMBERSHIP and builds on the valuable relationship between ACHSM and the university sector.
All Accreditations and Endorsements meetings are held online.
We have developed a short checklist to help universities prepare for their accreditation. This will be emailed out to the university once contact has been made.
We strongly encourage universities offering Health Service Management courses and not currently accredited by ACHSM to join us in creating a workforce that meets the needs of the health and aged care industry.
