Adam will be working with The Independent Hospital and Aged Care Pricing Authority (IHACPA) for the HMIP program. His first rotation is with the Hospital Policy and projects team, focusing on developing policies that underpin the work IHACPA does for hospital pricing. These policies include promoting efficiency and funding sustainability for publicly funded hospitals.
Adam holds a Bachelor of Science (majoring in pharmacology) (USyd), Master of Nursing (USyd) and Master of Health Leadership and Management (UNSW). Prior to the HMIP Adam has 4 years clinical experience, working as a registered nurse specialising in cardiac and coronary care. His clinical experience has instilled an appreciation for the complexity of our healthcare system and a desire to create meaningful change, ensuring outcomes for patients and supporting healthcare workers.
Throughout the HMIP Adam is most excited about furthering his understanding of our healthcare system, contributing to positive change to ensure patient outcomes and evolving his leadership and management skillset to maximise his impact on our health landscape.
Outside of work Adam enjoys reading, hiking, snorkelling and spending quality time with friends and family.
Catherine is placed at The Agency for Clinical Innovation (ACI), where her first rotation is with the Emergency Care Institute. She holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Physiotherapy) (Hons I) and has worked as a clinical physiotherapist across critical, acute, and outpatient settings within NSW Health. In this role, she developed a keen interest in quality improvement projects and evidence-based practice with the aim of improving patient and provider experiences and outcomes.
While working clinically, she continued to sharpen her research skills in collaboration with USYD academics, co-authoring papers evaluating the effect of health interventions on chronic lung disease and Parkinson’s disease. She is currently completing a Master of Health Leadership and Management/Master of Public Health through UNSW.
Catherine is excited to make the most out of this internship opportunity through the ACHSM and ACI, and is looking forward to learning as much as she can about project management, strategy, and implementation at a systems and statewide level. She aspires to be able to give back to clinicians and the broader community by effecting meaningful and positive change on the frontlines.
Outside of work, Catherine loves spending quality time and making lasting memories with family and friends, listening to podcasts, watching movies, and honing her cooking skills.
Lucy is placed in the Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network, a NSW Health organisation that provides healthcare to adults and young people involved in the forensic mental health and criminal justice systems. Lucy’s first rotation is in the Performance and Strategy Unit which is part of the Office of the Chief Executive.
Lucy graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy in 2021 and has since worked as a rotational physiotherapist in a range of hospitals across NSW including Wagga Wagga Base Hospital, Orange Health Service and Sydney/Sydney Eye Hospital. She gained valuable experience in acute surgical care, ICU/critical care, mental health and musculoskeletal outpatient settings. Lucy is passionate about addressing systemic challenges and improving access to care for all populations.
Lucy feels fortunate to be a part of the Health Management Program as she can continue to develop her leadership skills and drive for more positive change in healthcare settings. She is excited to contribute to healthcare by using her clinical knowledge, along with her passion, empathy and commitment to improving health outcomes for everyone.
Outside work, Lucy is passionate about health and fitness, recently participating in her second half marathon and currently preparing to train for a full marathon in September. She loves travelling, hiking and spending time with her family and friends.
Hisham is undertaking a two-year placement with WentWest, the Primary Health Network (PHN) for Western Sydney.
His first rotation is within the Primary Care Transformation and Integration Directorate, where he is specifically working on recommendations to optimise the General Practitioner (GP) workforce in Western Sydney. Hisham’s passion for healthcare transformation is driven by a strong commitment to improving patient access, equity, and system-wide integration.
Hisham graduated with a Bachelor of Oral Health from the University of Sydney and has since built a career within the private dental sector. He has worked as a registered Oral Health Therapist and held practice management roles across multiple dental practices, where he developed expertise in clinical governance, financial management, and patient-centered care.
His experience in both clinical and administrative settings has given him a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities within primary healthcare, reinforcing his drive to contribute to health system improvement.
Through the ACHSM HMIP, Hisham aspires to expand his expertise in health system reform, policy development, and healthcare leadership. His goal is to leverage his experience and education to improve access to care and enhance overall health outcomes.
He looks forward to using this program as a platform to develop as a healthcare leader and make a meaningful impact in the evolving Australian healthcare landscape.
Whilst completing the program Umut is hoping to gain hands-on experience in health service leadership, operational management, and whole of system integration.
Umut has been working for three years at WentWest (Western Sydney Primary Health Network), in role where he worked closely with healthcare providers, stakeholders, and community organisations to enhance service integration and improve access to primary care, ultimately aiming to improve patient outcomes. I focused on streamlining referral pathways, facilitating collaboration between health professionals, and supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening the primary healthcare system.
Umut has a strong background in stakeholder engagement and primary care coordination, and a deep commitment to health system improvement, preventative care, and enhancing community health outcomes. As Umut advances his public health career, he is eager to develop skills in health management, strategic planning, and understanding how key directorates work together to drive effective and sustainable healthcare solutions and change.
Umut holds a Bachelor of Health Sciences and a Master of Public Health from The University of Sydney, which has granted him a strong foundation in health policy, research, and evidence-based practice.
In his spare time, Umut enjoys bouldering, gaming, hiking, and watching films! As much as he loves his job, working to improve the health outcomes of the public, he needs to be active enough to look after himself too!
Having just returned from maternity leave, Tiffany has completed the Master’s component of the program whilst juggling being a new mother to twins. Tiffany enters 2025 as a second-year intern at Mid North Coast Local Health District.
Tiffany holds a Bachelor of Audio Production and a Master of Health Services Management. Having worked in both public and private hospitals for over a decade, she has experience from the frontline through to the executive offices of the Hospital and Local Health District levels. Having a background in administration and substantively working in Clinical Governance, Tiffany is passionate about health literacy and health advocacy for consumers. Outside of work, Tiffany spends time with her young family, swimming and walking her dogs.
Tiffany is looking forward to her second year of the intern program to establish strong partnerships and networks internal and external to health. Placements this year include Research, Knowledge and Translation, Integrated Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs and North Coast Public Health Unit. Tiffany is also proud to be representing her fellow interns as the second-year management intern representative on the ACHSM NSW State Brach Council.
Monica is a second-year intern with the Far West Local Health District, currently based in Broken Hill.
Her first rotation this year is within the Mental Health, Drug, and Alcohol Directorate. She holds a Bachelor of Communication (Public Relations) from Charles Sturt University, which has provided her with a strong foundation in digital media, marketing, advertising, and event management.
With four years of experience at NSW Health, Monica has worked across various directorates, including Medical Services, Remote Health Services, and the Chief Executive Unit. These roles have given her valuable exposure to corporate media relations and project support, broadening her skill set and deepening her understanding of corporate healthcare administration.
Monica is enthusiastic about embracing her final year in the program and is eager to take on additional opportunities that will expand her knowledge of the healthcare system, its services, pillars, and specialty networks. She is particularly grateful for the HMIP, which has helped her identify her leadership values and refine her management skills.
Her interests lie in driving change initiatives, improving organisational culture, and enhancing operational efficiency within the health sector.
Outside of work, Monica enjoys camping, hiking, socialising with family and friends, walking her dogs, baking, and staying active through regular exercise.
Anja has joined the HMIP through Macquarie University Health (MQ Health), MQ Health is an integrated academic led private healthcare organisation and teaching hospital located on the Macquarie University Campus in Sydney. Anja will continue her work with MQ Health Sciences Centre alongside additional placements and projects across the organisation.
Anja holds a Bachelor of Economics/International Relations from the University of Sydney. Anja’s journey in healthcare began in her role as an administrative assistant in outpatient private specialist clinics during her university tenure. Post-graduation, Anja took the opportunity to transition into a management role with MQ Health, assuming the responsibilities of Practice Manager for multiple specialist healthcare outpatient clinics.
Now, as an intern with the ACHSM, Anja is poised to deepen her understanding of the intricate health system over a two-year program. Her focus extends to developing a strong understanding of the breadth of Australia’s private and public systems in order to better understand how we can improve patient’s experiences and outcomes within our health system. Anja’s commitment to becoming a passionate and effective leader within healthcare is a testament to her dedication to professional growth and desire to contribute to the dynamic field of healthcare management.
Kelly is placed with IHACPA (Independent Hospital and Aged Care Pricing Authority) after having completed the first year of placement at Nous Group, an international management consulting firm. She will be undertaking a rotation with the Classifications team in the first 6 months of the year.
Kelly holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Diagnostic Radiography) and a Master of Management from the University of Sydney. She has had clinical experience in various radiology clinics and has a strong passion for education, having worked as a consultant in education strategy. Having had consulting experience and working with government agencies for clients, she is excited to experience the work and perspectives from the other side.
Kelly is appreciative of the opportunities that come attached to being in the Health Management program and is eager to leverage her knowledge accumulated from all components of the program into practice. Outside of work, Kelly enjoys continuing her former ballet training for leisure, playing music and reading.
Curtis is a second-year intern at the Agency for Clinical Innovation (ACI) and is expanding on his first-year involvement in state-wide clinical implementation projects and the development and implementation of organisational change and reporting processes. In the initial phase of his second year, Curtis is engaged in the translation of innovative research into sustainable clinical programs.
Curtis possesses a Bachelor of Science in Paramedicine and brings his experience as a registered paramedic in Western Australia, primarily involved in emergency response within the community. His personal journey as a type one diabetic has also led him to provide diabetes education and training sessions, particularly aimed at enhancing the capacity and resilience of families with newly diagnosed children.
Curtis’s professional journey has exposed him to a wide array of disadvantaged populations within the community. He aspires to merge the insights gained from the HMIP with his clinical expertise and personal experience as a type one diabetic. His overarching mission is to champion health innovations and foster sustainable change, leveraging his unique perspective to make a positive impact on healthcare.
